Packing decides how fast moving day goes. A well-packed bedsitter loads in under an hour; a badly packed one takes all morning. These ten habits come from what slows moves down most often.
Before you buy a single box
- Declutter first. Every item you give away or sell is one less box to pay to move.
- Use uniform box sizes. Mixed shapes waste truck space and stack badly.
- Book your move before you pack the kitchen — people always pack the kettle too early.
While you pack
- Label every box with the room it goes to, not the room it came from.
- Keep one box aside for the first night: chargers, toiletries, one pan, bedding.
- Wrap plates vertically like records. Stacked flat, the bottom ones crack under weight.
- Photograph the back of your TV and router before unplugging — cabling goes back in minutes.
- Tape furniture drawers shut rather than emptying them; movers carry the piece as one.
- Keep screws and remotes in a labelled bag taped to the item they belong to.
- Fill gaps inside boxes with linen and towels — it is free padding and it moves your linen anyway.
If you would rather not pack at all, add our packing service to the quote — the crew brings boxes, wrap and labels and does it the day before the move.
